Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
How does the Voice Recognition Jap Counter work?
When you enable Voice Jap mode and grant microphone permission, GoodKarma uses your
iPhone's built-in on-device speech recognizer to detect sacred mantra syllables in real
time. Each complete recitation automatically increments your count and vibrates with a
subtle haptic pulse.
Crucially, 100% of the speech recognition runs locally on your iPhone —
no voice recordings are ever created, stored, or sent to any server.
Why is microphone permission needed and how do I enable it?
Microphone access is solely requested for the optional hands-free voice counting feature
so you can chant without touching the screen. If you accidentally denied microphone
access during setup, you can enable it anytime:
- Open the Settings app on your iPhone.
- Scroll down to find GoodKarma.
- Toggle the Microphone switch to ON.
Does GoodKarma work completely offline without Internet?
Yes, absolutely. GoodKarma is built offline-first. The Mala bead
counter, haptics, mantra library, daily streaks, and voice recognition function
completely offline without cellular data or Wi-Fi. All counts are saved locally in an
SQLite database on your device.
What languages are supported?
GoodKarma offers complete native support for 12 sacred languages:
- English
- Hindi (हिन्दी)
- Gujarati (ગુજરાતી)
- Marathi (मराठी)
- Bengali (বাংলা)
- Tamil (தமிழ்)

- Kannada (ಕನ್ನಡ)
- Malayalam (മലയാളം)
- Punjabi (ਪੰਜਾਬੀ)

How does the 108 Mala cycle work?
Traditionally, a Japa Mala consists of 108 beads plus a Guru bead. In GoodKarma, as you
tap or chant, the bead ring completes 108 counts. Upon reaching the 108th count, the app
gives a celebratory gentle haptic pulse and sound chiming the completion of 1 full Mala,
and automatically advances your Mala tally.
How do I sync my progress across multiple devices?
If you want to sync your streaks and counts across your iPhone and iPad, navigate to
Settings > Account and sign in using your email or Apple ID. Your counts
will automatically back up to our encrypted cloud database with Row-Level Security.
How can I delete my account and prayer data?
You have complete ownership of your data:
- In-App: Go to Settings > Privacy & Account > Delete Account. This permanently wipes your account and all prayer records from our cloud database.
- Via Email: Email support@goodkarma.app with the subject line “Account Deletion Request” from your registered email address, and our team will process the deletion within 48 hours.
- Offline Users: Simply deleting the app from your iOS device immediately deletes all local SQLite records.
